The 2 door "Customlines" are actually Fairlanes.

Ok Wee Allis
You’ve got my attention. I can only just remember Customlines as a kid, mainly utes, and they were a dying breed by then. Falcons were about to rule the Ford roost.
So- was the 4 door a Customline & the 2 door a Fairlane?
Tks

Customlines sold here only as 4 door and Fairlanes, (2 door) were not marketed in Australia.
The utes sold here as Mainlines.

A surprising number of the cars were LHD, I had to look at where the steering wheel was more than once. Makes a pleasant change from when Victoria would not Register LHD vehicles. Beginning in the late 1970s , it took a lot of gentle persistent persuasion by the car clubs to bring in the Classic rego system, and, eventually LHD. I've seen so many bodged conversations of WW2 jeeps , some are outright dangerous.

The Meteor station wagon at the swap is a car I've not seen before.

Yes Paul, Ford built the Victorias, also Crown Vics as they are known, for many years, right up into the 2000's. A lot of US Police Forces used them exclusively.

Tank model Fairlanes arrived about the time the new Ford Factory was planned in Victoria.

As unsuitable as they were people still raced them. Len Lukey (muffler man) campaigned a Customline all through the 50's with some success.

I remember seeing a Ford Galaxy "Tank" in the early 60's at Sandown with a big block engine racing against Holdens, GT Cortinas and Minis. He blew the socks off them for twenty laps (100 yard increasing  lead at the end of each straight bit but slowed right down on the corners) then ran out of brakes and departed through the fence at the end of the straight. I don't think he thought past dominating power to get to the turning corners and stopping bit.

The 1964 Sandown 6 Hour Race
  • The Car: A powerful Ford Galaxie, often cited as a 427-cubic inch model.
  • The Drivers: Lex Davison and Sir Gawaine Baillie.
  • The Event: Davison led the race, doubling the field after 22 laps.
  • The Incident: The car's brakes failed at Peter's Corner, causing it to crash through the fence and almost into the lake.
  • Legacy: An iconic moment in Australian motorsport, with Davison famously blaming "bloody brakes melted".

Here is a photo of somebody persisting in the later model Ford.
