Paul

Don't delete stuff. Your input is as important as anyone else. As for incorrect , everyone has faulty memories and opinions held in perfectly good faith and they create discussion. Of the several thousand people coming and going from the forum nearly all have seen something that made them say "Well, I always thought it was the other way around until I saw Paul's post, followed up by a couple of others".

Even if you are mistaken on say the Ford speed, you certainly gave me some pleasant memories thinking about the times in my youth when I too was counting mileposts quite oblivious to the fact I was in a car that had crappy brakes, steering and no seat belts.

Keep going mate!

Speaking of speed, I once rode my push bike from daylight to dusk in 4 hours.

And for people whining how bad off we are, think how lucky we are that the tanks in our cars can now fit $100 of fuel when a few years ago they could only hold $65.

Falcon gearchange was the best anti theft ever ...........I had an XY ,and no prolem ,but anyone got into that car ,the moment they touched the gearchange it would jam between first and second ...........had to open the hood and lever the change rods .

My XP Ute had the same anti-theft device.  About 10 years ago I was driving it home to Echuca from Melbourne.  At Heathcote I topped up the fuel, moved the ute from the pump, and sat down to have a coffee. Two VS Holden B&S utes with P plates pulled in.  The drivers were taking a good look at the old Ford with respect.  I had finished my coffee and opened the door to get in. After asking if it was mine the next question was "Is it auto or manual? We can't find the gear lever!".

Having lived through a pandemic I now understand all the painting of fat people on couches!

Falcons had a habit of :  when the starter pinion would not engage the ring gear properly and it made a loud crunching sound.

The BW autos would lose reverse . It was a easy fix , a simple O ring replacement . The kick down cable needed to be adjusted correctly or it wouldn’t select the lower gear when you needed it.
