An interesting read,

The bottom line,

"Everything that appears on your table or in your house has, at some point, travelled on a truck."

Things seem to have a habit of working them selves out

As the shortage increases the pay will go up to attract new drivers

I do think the industry will change quite a bit, maybe when thw inland rail links are completed the amount of long distance trucks will drop dramatically

I believe this happened when the rail line finally made it to Darwin

Getting the rail across the border into Qld and then into Brisbane is likely to be a long time coming, but yes will be a game changer so long as the parcels and fresh produce side of things can be done next day. Rail network around Sydney is choked with coal and passenger so no change there.

I reckon the line will go from Toowoomba to Gladstone before Brisbane. There are major issues with the Millmerran flood plains, so Toowoomba is going to cause grief.
