Today's play time was screw on my outlet stop caps I made years ago for when sand blasting n painting. Pour 2ltrs of cleaning vinegar inside n rotate in every direction. 1st drain showed rust n vinegar slightly off colour. By number 6 cycle of fill, swish n drain it was looking like a brew of tea was not far away. I'm now at the 8th cycle n still getting rust out via the outlet on the bottom of the tank. Brew is now dark enough if it was tea for drinking.
in-between each cycle I would stick the vacuum pipe down the filler tube to pick up what wad there. When pouring the vinegar back in I use a funnel that has those fine mesh filters for string your fuel. So I rinse the bucket n funnel free of rust sediment at each cycle.
Tomorrow the bum hole camera (endoscope from fleabay) cones out to play to see how it's going inside n to try to see how much of the tank sealant done its joc of coating inside. Hopefully the pics work.

Have you thought about fishing for metal/rust flakes with a magnet on a wire?
I'm assuming they crap is magnetic?
If it is chuck a couple of magnets in the tank to retain the fillings.

Only magnet I have is from a microwave which doesnt fit down the filler tube. About half of it is magetic the other half is not. Although monotinous im making slow progress. I could probably make a weak type of magnet using my magneto charger but will see how thiungs go tomorrow. Ive got a ton of patience.

Started rinsing it all out today. Each rinse xycle was water, rotate, shake, drain n do it again. By the 14th cycle the water was getting clear with the smallest amount of rust showing. To continue tomorrow.
Camera down the hole using the right angle view was a failure. Straight lenses laid down to give these shots not brilliant but can cypher them out almost. 2st pic is to the right of the filler tube. 2nd pic is looking back at the lh bottom corner of the internal tank. 3rd pic I think is the top of the outlet.
Tomorrow I will stick some wire up the outlet to confirm. Also want to know if that is a flake of rust in the 2nd pic lh side.

Poke a hole in a fridge magnet and attach it to a bit of coat hanger and see if it collects anything.
If it does go to Bunnings and get a reasonably powerful magnet and see how you go.

David comes with a glass bowl to trap rust n silt but not so much water. Biggest problem up to now is that the rust was blocking the outlet hole starving the engine for fuel. There is the smalest amount of fine stuff in the bowl which i clean out every now n then as it just sits down the bottom. Need the fuel to flow first. At one time I did have an inline disposable fuel filter and it worked ok n i thought that it was all gone but no its still tere.

Despite the instructions about it not being reusable once you open the can, I have a 1lt tin that I have been using for 5-6 years. The lid goes back on and then the whole thing wrapped up in duct tape.
It works best if you can remove the tank to swirl it around to make sure you get full coverage inside the tank.

A thumbs up from me on the POR 15. I use that on a lot of tank repairs, restoration and cleans. It seals in the crud and exposed bare surfaces to stop it starting up again after it has been cleaned. Used it a few weeks back on a tank that was weeping along a seam.Cobba, have a goose at this.
