Fred Astaire came to Melbourne in order to star in the film 'On the Beach' . They filmed some of the car racing scenes down at Phillip Island . A long time member of the mv club here, was a scrutineer,  checking the cars before racing. Bevan said: Fred was a nice chap, down to earth and not a typical 'demanding'  Hollywood star.

And the leading lady, Ava Gardner, said "They chose Melbourne to be the end of the world, they chose well"

Here is our patch we bought when we visited HARS museum in Albion Park just south of Wollongong. We have been to Rathmines where an old Catalina Base was. All the concrete n ramps are still there n some buildings. I believe there is a museum there now.
