Assembled n installed the crank housing. I always run the taps n dies over the threads to make assembly easier.Ā

In the middle of the night I was thinking where to get some 75mm round hardwood. FOUND SONE. I had an off cut of a timber fence post just needed cutting down n machining. Used the drop saw to make a square, the planer to make it octagonal then the lathe to make it round. But I needed a drive dog to drive the timber at the chuck end. So grabbed an old bolt n cut some teeth into it. Found centre on the wood n hit it in hard, slipped it into the chuck n the live centre at the other end. I machined the live centre end first then flipped the job around to finish it off. Next I parted it in half then marked up the ends to drill the hole for the axle. Only had 1/2" wood bit so ran that through now have a 15mm bit on order to drill to finish size.Ā

Rollers should provide a better ride for the mower
I guess they are well seasoned so there's not much there to worry about in shrinkage
Good job
Paul

May I suggest soaking the rollers in a 50/50 mix of linseed oil and turpentine (turps is a carrier for the oil) to help alleviate any stress related shrinkage and cracking of the timber, the surface will move after machining

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Did you need to cut the roller in half, other than to make it look like the original and to let the spade bit reach?
You certainly understand more than I do, as to what is needed to make things work! You obviously had training in these trades unlike me, who had none.
